Influence of imperfect surface layers on dielectric and pyroelectric properties of ferroelectric thin film
نویسندگان
چکیده
Using the Ginzburg–Laudau–Devonshire theory and taking into account structural difference between imperfect surface layers and bulk ferroelectrics, the dielectric and pyroelectric properties of ferroelectric thin films coated with two metallic electrodes have been studied. The numerical results show that the effects of imperfect surface layers are to increase the effective dielectric susceptibility at room temperature through lowering the phase transition temperature. Both the dielectric susceptibility peak and pyroelectric coefficient peak shift to lower temperatures due to the contribution of the imperfect surface layers. The incompletely screened non-uniform depolarization field makes the susceptibility distribution more uniform. r 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. PACS: 77.80.Bh; 77.55.+f; 77.80.Dj

Theoretical study on the influence of surface imperfections on the properties of ferroelectric thin films in first-order ferroelectric systems
A generalized Ginzburg–Landau–Devonshire (GLD) theory is used to study the properties of ferroelectric thin films sandwiched between two metal electrodes with a first-order phase transition. By taking into account the effect of the imperfect surface layer and a natural boundary condition, the temperature and film-thickness dependence of the spontaneous polarization and the dielectric susceptibi...
متن کاملDielectric properties of ferroelectric thin films with surface transition layers.
By taking into account surface transition layers (STL), the dielectric properties of ferroelectric thin films described by the transverse Ising model are discussed in the framework of the mean field approximation. Functions of the intra-layer and inter-layer couplings are introduced to characterize STL, which makes the model more realistic compared to previous treatment of surface layers using ...
متن کاملPyroelectric properties of finite size ferroelectric thin films with structural transition zones
A Fermi-type Green’s function is used to study pyroelectric properties of the thin filmwith finite sizes in three dimensions based on a modified transverse Ising model. The results demonstrate that a decrease in the lateral size of the film has a disadvantageous influence on the pyroelectric coefficient of the thin film. & 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
متن کاملOn the Magneto-Thermo-Elastic Behavior of a Functionally Graded Cylindrical Shell with Pyroelectric Layers Featuring Interlaminar Bonding Imperfections Rested in an Elastic Foundation
The behavior of an exponentially graded hybrid cylindrical shell subjected to an axisymmetric thermo-electro-mechanical loading placed in a constant magnetic field is investigated. The hybrid shell is consisted of a functionally graded host layer embedded with pyroelectric layers as sensor and/or actuator that can be imperfectly bonded to the inner and the outer surfaces of a shell. The shell...
متن کاملHot Plate Annealing at a Low Temperature of a Thin Ferroelectric P(VDF-TrFE) Film with an Improved Crystalline Structure for Sensors and Actuators
Ferroelectric poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) (P(VDF-TrFE)) copolymer 70/30 thin films are prepared by spin coating. The crystalline structure of these films is investigated by varying the annealing temperature from the ferroelectric phase to the paraelectric phase. A hot plate was used to produce a direct and an efficient annealing effect on the thin film. The dielectric, ferroelec...
